Life’s Journey

“life is not a destination but a journey and what an exciting journey it can be if you listen to your heart and be true to yourself.”

Ten ten when he has “tigdas hangin” or roseola infantum.

‘TIGDAS HANGIN” or ROSEOLA INFANTUM

If your toddler recently had a fever and now has a spotty, raised or flat, rosy-pink rash, it could be roseola, also called roseola infantum.

Roseola is a fairly mild and common viral illness that usually strikes children between 6 months and 3 years of age. Roseola is caused by a kind of herpes virus, although not the type that’s sexually transmitted.

What are the symptoms of roseola?

It’s possible to have the virus without having noticeable symptoms. But roseola usually starts out with a sudden, relatively high fever, often above 103 degrees Fahrenheit.

The fever typically lasts three to five days and may end abruptly, followed by the telltale rash. The rash may last for days or only hours.

The rash is pink and may have small flat spots or raised bumps. These spots may have a lighter “halo” around them and may turn white if you press on them.

The rash isn’t itchy or uncomfortable, and contact with the rash itself doesn’t spread the illness. It’s usually seen on the trunk and neck, but it can extend to the arms, legs, and face.

If your toddler has roseola, he may also be irritable and tired and have mild diarrhea, a decreased appetite, and swollen eyelids. The lymph nodes in his neck and at the base of his skull may also be a bit enlarged. In general, children with roseola don’t appear especially ill, considering how high their fevers get.

Occasionally, children with roseola have a febrile seizure. If this happens, your toddler may become unconscious and jerk his arms, legs, or facial muscles for two or three minutes. He may also lose control of his bladder or bowels.

Although frightening, fever-induced seizures in young children are seldom serious and rarely harmful. If you can, try to time the length of the seizure. Your child’s doctor will want to know how long the episode lasted.

How should I treat roseola?

There’s no specific treatment for roseola. Like most viral illnesses, roseola just needs to run its course. The most important thing you can do is make sure your toddler rests and gets plenty of liquids.

Ask your doctor about ways to safely bring down your toddler’s fever. She may suggest children’s acetaminophen or a lukewarm sponge bath.

Never give a child aspirin. It can trigger Reye’s syndrome, a rare but deadly disease.

Is roseola contagious?

Yes, especially among young children. Roseola is spread by saliva or respiratory droplets — when an infected person sneezes or coughs, for example — or by fecal-oral contact. Because a child is contagious before he has symptoms, there’s often no way to avoid exposure.

Make sure that all family members — especially those taking care of your toddler — wash their hands frequently. (This is a good idea even in the fever stage because you don’t know that you’re dealing with roseola until you see the classic rash.)

To play it safe, keep your child home from daycare and away from others while he has a fever. It’s probably wise to keep him home until the rash is gone, although he’ll be less contagious once he has the rash than he was when he had the fever.

The good news: Once your child has had roseola, he’ll probably have lifelong immunity to it.

Hello Kitty Maternity Hospital- Hello Kitty Welcomes Taiwan Newborns

YUANLIN, Taiwan (Reuters Life!) - Mommy, daddy — and Hello Kitty — welcome newborns at a cat-themed Taiwan maternity hospital that hopes the Japanese cartoon icon will ease the stress of childbirth as well as boost business.

The 30-bed Hau Sheng Hospital in Yuanlin in central Taiwan claims to be the only institution of its kind authorized by the popular cartoon cat’s parent company Sanrio Co Ltd.

Newborns get everything Hello Kitty but a set of whiskers, including pink or blue receiving blankets, nurses dressed in pink uniforms with cat-themed aprons, cot linen and room decor.

In the lobby, a Hello Kitty statue in a doctor’s uniform greets patients, and twice a year people in feline costumes visit mothers and children.

The cat’s likeness even shows up on birth certificate covers.

Director Tsai Tsung-chi said he hopes the white, mouthless cat that is one of the world’s most recognizable characters will ease the pain and fear associated with childbirth and being admitted into hospital.

“I wish that everyone who comes here, mothers who suffer while giving birth and children who suffer from an illness, can get medical care while seeing these kitties and bring a smile to their faces, helping forget about discomfort and recover faster,” he told Reuters.

Tsai opened the hospital with T$100 million ($3 million) in his hometown of 126,000 because his mother, wife and daughter all like the cartoon cat.

“Unlike traditional hospitals that are mostly white, I feel this one is pretty good,” said Chen Shing-chiu, 38, mother of a newborn baby boy. “I like Hello Kitty very much myself.”

Hello Kitty has a loyal following in Japan and elsewhere, mainly of young females who consider her the epitome of cuteness. The podgy feline has even been featured in the Japanese issue of fashion magazine Vogue this year.

Poem of Motherhood

WELCOME TO MOTHERHOOD

Welcome to motherhood
a new life you start,
the price of the membership
is only your heart.
Alife filled with heartache,
anxieties and fears,
of sleepless nights,
and endless tears.
You´ll fear the whole world
in those panic filled nights,
when you gaze at your child
and truly feel fright.
But something is stirring
its greater than us,
its fearless and strong,
its a mothers love.
Nature is cunning,
its old and its wise,
in exchange of your heart
it gives you a prize.
Of rainbows and laughter
and days filled with sun,
of daydreams and kisses
and earts filles with fun.
A gift so precious,
that no one can part.
A mother gets a bargain
in exchange for her heart.

We must embrace pain and burn it as fuel for our journey…

Before the accident

Before the accident

I was in the hospital
I was in the hospital after the Accident in Bataan on our way to Mt. Samat

“Bad trip!” as in “bad trip!” yung trip namin bad! talaga…

Buong araw akong umiiyak at di makapaniwala.

Syempre, after 48 years in the waiting…gumaling narin yung mga sugat.
